Dave - 90 Years Young

In August 1971 I found myself weighing 193 lbs at 5’7”. I was changing jobs from school principal to central office as supervisor of the science program K – 12. Here’s my chance to change. I went to the Harry Ainlay track and timed myself for a mile “run” – 9min, 20 sec.

With the support of Dr. Ken Cooper’s Aerobic Points System, I began the slow process of walk/jog.

My new boss insisted I accompany him to the Central YMCA – gym workouts including the dreaded “running stairs” – WHEW!

Three years later I went for my first outdoor run – 3 miles. I was wiped but continued running, most often with a group.

Three years after an achilles disaster I found solace in pool workouts and swimming at the Kinsmen Field House – eventually joining the William Lutsky YMCA and working out under Randy’s “gentle” guidance.
