Rheva - 92 Years Young

I’ve had asthma my whole life, so it is not surprising that I was a sedentary adult. The asthma  got to the point where every winter I was landing in hospital, struggling to breathe. By the time I was 59 it was so out of control that I really thought my life was about to end and my respirologist was tearing his hair out in frustration. He finally convinced me to retire early and start heading to a warmer climate for the winter. It worked. Once I was able to breathe again, I started working out with a Navy SEAL trainer in California during the winter season.

When I moved into a senior’s facility in downtown Edmonton in my 80s I joined the Y and was going five times a week until Covid hit. After a few months of lockdown my muscle mass was fading fast. Once we were allowed outside again, I joined my daughter and son-in-law (and sometimes my grand-daughter and her boyfriend) in training sessions Randy led for us in the park.

Now, at age 89, I’m back to doing 100 crunches a day, and while I can’t quite lift the 3,300 lbs (reps x weight) in one session that I did a few years ago, and my form may not be perfect, I’m making progress and enjoying life.
